A Question For African American mothers....?

My newborn was born with straight black hair. Has anyone else son or daughter have the same type of hair, and if so how was the hair when they got a little older, did they hair get thicker or curlier? Just curious. My other daughter was born with curly hair and her hair now is thick. Thanks

Look at your hair and the dad's hair. That is the best indicator. AA hair can be straight to very curly but it usually starts out a lot thinner and less "kinky". It can take years to see the end result. Either way it will still be beautiful.

Her hair may remain straight, but in all likelihood will get curlier, and definately thicker. Look at the texture of her father's family's hair and go from there! And if you need help managing her hair when she gets older, please ask for help from her father's family, or other AfAms.

Are you or your partner of mixed racial heritage? If so, your baby's hair is unlikely to become curly. It will probably be wavy.

my daughter is 1/4 jamacian and was born with straight brown hair. its still light brown, goes blonde in the summer but it is really really curly and pretty thick.

many babies are born this way. I 'preserved' the texture by not washing it with soap for the first 3 months. I simply wiped it with warm water. The soap seemed to make it thick and dry. My kids that I did that to has hair that isn't dry, yet thick and curly
