Why do some people say african-american is greasy?

Our hair is the most dryest thing on earth, straight hair has more OIL than our hair. Where did this stereotype come from?

Why do some people say african-american is greasy?

I actually saw somethin about this on a talk show.. think it was Tyra. It was a race show, and a girl was saying she thought african americans had greasy hair (this is a paraphrased quote) "because when some black women get it done in salons they put a ton of product in that makes it really shiny. It looks greasy. Also, when they get it straightened, it gets shiny and looks greasy." An african american girl in the audience stood up and let the girl her touch her hair.. and the girl said it was soft, not greasy ;)

Most stereotypes like that stem from ignorance..

Why do some people say african-american is greasy?

i think they are talking about jerry-curls. i agree with you tho that african americans have dry hair. stereotypes just come from comedians and other people.

Why do some people say african-american is greasy?

Has to do with the skin i think. Same with mexicans or people with brown or olive colored skin like italians and and other darker skin tones. Thats why they use the word greaseball when throwing insult. But for the most part its just an insult. Dont pay much attention to them as they are just trying to insult peple and are just stupid.

Why do some people say african-american is greasy?

I don't know but I agree with you, African-American hair is usually very dry. However says otherwise is probaly stupid

Why do some people say african-american is greasy?

I couldn't have said it any better than Kristen B! Great Answer!

Why do some people say african-american is greasy?

Certain amount of oil is good, but if thats a put down, it should be ignored.

Why do some people say african-american is greasy?

I hate stereotypes, but I think that it also comes from some peoples stupid assumptions about the moisturizers that used to be added to the hair during the 80's and 90's. When I was growning up in the area that I lived in, there were very few African Americans, so there were no places to buy hair products without a long drive. The cheap hair products that we had available did leave an oily residue in the hair. I know that I heard so many mean comments about staining the walls behind chairs during that time.

Why do some people say african-american is greasy?

Because when you put grease all over yourselves so the hair won't fallout/break off and so the skin don't turn ashey the result is greasy. Plus certain ethnicities use ALOT of grease to cook. Been there, done that.

Why do some people say african-american is greasy?

maybe they probley get confused with people putting grease in their hair. Most people dont realize its not made that way haha

Why do some people say african-american is greasy?

Some people thing this because they think that since the native African hair was tougher than others that it must need more care products such as coconut oil to suit there hair type and those are the kinds that make hair more oily so that is probably the source of the stereotype.

Why do some people say african-american is greasy?

Remember the 80's. It started with the Jeri curl. I am 39 yrs of age and I remember the jeri curl when it came out. It was not until then that I remember African-Americans being stuck with the greasy hair stereotype. I guess if we had to blame someone we can start with Hollywood. Remember the movie "Coming to America." It stereotyped African Americans with the jeri curl spots on the sofa and the jeri curl spray bottle.

Why do some people say african-american is greasy?

It is because most people know they use gerri curl or vaseline to moisturize their very dry hair, and to be able to work with it. I am sure that you have noticed the stains on the back of the furniture from one who has either in their hair and has sat there. It isn't meant to be offensive.

Why do some people say african-american is greasy?

I couldn't have said it any better than Kristen B! Great Answer!

Why do some people say african-american is greasy?

I never heard that term used before. Where do you live? Our hair not the dryest thing on earth. You putting out another stereotype.

I'm a young, cute african american princess with ALOPECIA.?

My first bald spot arrived at the tender age of 11 when my father passed away. Throughout my teen years bald spots came and went. Nothing really drastic. At the age of 20 my first born made herself known. I became semi-bald. I went to HCM to get a hair transplant (matrix). Where they had to shave the remaining to give me a glued on wig. I was dissapointed and after 3-6 mos I stopped going. My hair started to grow back soon after. Now I'm 25 and my second born just arrived. Now I'm totally bald as her bottom. I don't really want to go back to the matrix. Is there any medicine, shampoos anything out there I can use? Am I in the dark about anything? I feel like there's this magic alopecia pill that everyone's taking to have hair down their back and I'm stuck bald in the dark. Let me know.

PS- I'm newly single. Did I mention how big of a damper this can do to a young woman's self esteem?

I'm a young, cute african american princess with ALOPECIA.?

Alopecia can be autoimmune in nature...do you also have vitiligo, pernicious anemia or another autoimmune disease? I have a book called women and autoimmune disease by Robert Lahita,MD. There is a small section in there on alopecia. It seems that stress is playing a major part in your hair loss which is what makes me think it is autoimmune in nature. If you have a reputable rheumatologist in your area you could start there...in the mean time get a cute wig! the plus side of wigs is that you can change your style as often as you like!

I'm a young, cute african american princess with ALOPECIA.?

I would go to a dermatologist for alopecia treatments. Also go to a regular dr to find out if you have any auto immune disorders that are the underlying cause of this. Don't just bandaid your problem, get to the bottom of it. Good Luck

Why does my hair get knots in it after I take down my hair?

By the way I`m an African American with relaxed hair.

Why does my hair get knots in it after I take down my hair?

Im puerto rican, and i guess we have similar hair.

Well i got my hair relaxed a few years ago, because it was extremely poofy and curly.

And when i wear it in a ponytail, it doesn't get tangley,

but when it's washed, and i but it in a ponytail and it drys,

it's like hell.

If your's is wet then that is probably why,

If not then a flat iron, and some Pink Oil should help.

Why does my hair get knots in it after I take down my hair?

because its one hair style for so long when you take it down the hair tye or whatever you used gets knoted in and then when you hair falls it gets tangeled because youv moved it from what it was. id suggest that when you style it take it dowon one section at a time and when your putting it up yous something that will make it a lil more softer. like "shine"(thats what its called)it comes in a clear bottel, it would help alot

My daughter and i r African American and want tight curls that will stay for months..what chemicals

we donot want hair extentions or weaves(daughter is 6) both of our hair is already long ..shoulder length...our hair is naturally curly when wet but when it drys ...afro city.....how can we keep dry curly, healty look?

My daughter and i r African American and want tight curls that will stay for months..what chemicals do we us?

You need Hair Milk by Carol's Daughter. It works like a charm for mosturizing and keeping curls.

My hair is the exact same way and this product as well as all of her others works great

My daughter and i r African American and want tight curls that will stay for months..what chemicals do we us?

wow, that is exactly how mu hair is. curly when wet and a bog fro when dry. anywho. . . you don't have to use chemicals to get tight curls. find a shop that does a straw set, they wrap your hair around straws, you can choose the size, and you get tight curls after you sit under the dryer. I don't know exactly what they put on the hair to get the curls to stay, but you should look into it. skinnier straws = tighter curls.

My daughter and i r African American and want tight curls that will stay for months..what chemicals do we us?

how bout perming your hair with curlers i guess

i really dont know

try it if you dare

My daughter and i r African American and want tight curls that will stay for months..what chemicals do we us?

There are curtain rollers that specify in that. that will save you money from going to the shop. When you wash your hair these curlers are sponge type and long. you wrap it up ward and spritz. You set under a dryer until your hair is dry because if you air dry it will frizz up. They have ouch less ones for the daughter!

My daughter and i r African American and want tight curls that will stay for months..what chemicals do we us?

By adding a hair oil hair creme or hair lotion to your hair.

Go and get a straw curls done. It takes a while to get it done because the roll your hair with plastic straws and when it is done you have the tightest curls that last. I don't know if your daughter can sit that long.

Question for African American woman only!?

My friend can't find good hair products. What do you recommend?

Question for African American woman only!?

Well first she should go to black hairstylist and speak with them about what she can do. Sally's Beauty Supply has a very nice stock of hair products of Black women. Also depending on how old she just may need to go through a trial and error period with her hair. Try out different things to see how her hair responds to different products and tools. For example, my friend can flat iron her hair everytime she washes it and its ok for her hair. I, on the otherhand can't do that. A flat iron can be too much heat and too intense for my hair causing it to break, so I prefer to roll and set it. It all depends on your grade of hair, with black women.

Question for African American woman only!?

Tell your friend to try

*optimum

also tell her to go to her local hair supply store and ask the owner for her type of hair..the owners usually know what is best also the workers.

Does ANy African american women know what i can use to stop breakage?

I need a product that will help with hair growth and stop breakage? I use to dax tar grease when i was little, but i cant find it anywhere. Thanks

Does ANy African american women know what i can use to stop breakage?

I can tell you right off the bat to stop using dax tar grease. No one should ever use grease on their hair. Oils, pomades, and moisturizers only. I don't know your hair texture but mine is the kinkiest of the kinky. Greases do nothing except clog the scalp and prevent the sebum(oil produced naturally from our scalp) from reaching our hair and it stunts the hair growth.

you might want to try growth specifcs, its specifically made for alopecia patients but it works for everyone. While this product does work you hair will never grow to its full potential if your not properly taking care of it. Washing and deep conditoning once a week and using light scalp oils on your hair and scalp.

Does ANy African american women know what i can use to stop breakage?

to stop breakage and maximize growth you need to minimize manipulation in your hair. Get it braided so you can't comb, brush or add heat to your hair. If you have a relaxer, try to streatch you relaxers to at least 6 months apart. Your hair will thank you!!!! Also research on the web.

Need help from any african american woman.?

I want to go from relaxed hair to natural hair, any suggestions for the transition?

Need help from any african american woman.?

Just stop getting relaxers. If you're not even going to press it, you'd have to cut it. If you just want to not get a perm, but continue to wear it straight, just press the newgrowth and keep getting your ends clipped and eventually you will trim all the permed hair. This will take a bit, unless you're bold and don't mind wearing a shorter cut.

The only thing you can do is cut the relaxed hair and start from scratch. I tried a mayonnaise concoction years ago that was suppose to strip the relaxer out but it didn't work.

Does an african american girl look good with bangs to the side?

Im thinking about cutting my hair and doing side bangs. What do you think?

Does an african american girl look good with bangs to the side?

One thing I must say is that it does not matter what type of race you are. It matters on what you want ,what you look like and how you feel about cutting your hair. Hair style can be the extensions on how you are feeling about yourself or a statement on hoe you feel about a particular subject. Cutting your bang should not be a big deal especially when you want a side bang they usually grow back a lot faster than just straight bangs. Don't be afraid to experiment a little with your hair.

Does an african american girl look good with bangs to the side?

It depends on you. race isn't the issue. you have to try it for yourself.but it mostly look good on anyone.

Does an african american girl look good with bangs to the side?

I think that would look cute.

Does an african american girl look good with bangs to the side?

i love it it gives off a mysterious look

Does an african american girl look good with bangs to the side?

do you boo. make it hott!!! :)

Does an african american girl look good with bangs to the side?

I COMPLETELY AGREE WITH CLOUD NINE!!!!!!!!!!!

Does an african american girl look good with bangs to the side?

No.

Does an african american girl look good with bangs to the side?

I personally think anyone can pull it off, i just think it depends on the cut of the bangs, and the length. I have bangs to the side and I always get them cut at an angle, and i like to keep mine just a little below my eyebrow.

but i say go for it, you'll never know unless you try.

Does an african american girl look good with bangs to the side?

my friend has african-american hair and she got side bangs, but they always seem a little...off. she has very curly hair and i think she gets it chemically straightened, but she does use this flat iron that gets extremely hot. her bangs always seem flat and lifeless, but i guess it depends on your hair texture and if you're willing to keep up with them.

Does an african american girl look good with bangs to the side?

i think it would look good on an african american girl. but dont alot of them have hair like that?

Does an african american girl look good with bangs to the side?

it depents from the cut and the shape of your face

Does an african american girl look good with bangs to the side?

it will look cute

Childs Hair Help?

My son is 3/4 South American and Spaniard and 1/4 African American. His hair well it閳ユ獨 kind of hard to describe. He has Big Curls but allot of hair like all black people have. It閳ユ獨 really soft as well and he wants to grow it out and put corn rows in really bad. He is only 8 years old but he fights with me when I have to shave his hair short. Matter of fact he is sitting here watching me ask this hoping for some help more so on his side...lol

We have tried Mousse, Gel (all kinds), and anti-frizz serum. Nothing works for his hair what so ever to keep it looking good and not like he just got out of bed. I am a White women that has course tight curls with little frizz (I got lucky with little frizz). What are some products I can buy to help my son grow his hair out but not let him look so goofy with bed head. We have talked to his grandma (a black women) and she never had a problem like this with my son閳ユ獨 dad. Oh my son says he doesn閳ユ獩 want a greasy head either. Any help is great

Childs Hair Help?

veeery close to my hair only im black and white. dont use gel or mousse. that doesnt work at all! Just let him get the cornrows. Have the people wash it and get it DEEP conditioned. Then let them do their cornrows. Ask them for suggestions on how to keep it nice. But I would say buy a light braid spray and spray it on every morning. The cornrows will hurt the first day, but braid sprays cools the burn. Dont let him itch it the first day!!! It wont help. Just tell him to tap his head where it itches. The cornrows will look nice and keep his hair nice and neat. Have him sleep w/ a silk do rag at night to keep the frizzies away. And last tip, dont wash his hair more than every 1 1/2 weeks while the cornrows are in or they will unravel. not cool lol.

hope i helped!!

Childs Hair Help?

maybe getting his hair relaxed

letting it grow and get cronrows will keep the fizz down a lot and keeping it looking neat with, it may be wirth a try, it amy work it may not. got to a stylist that does only african americans hair even if it is just gioing in for a consult, they can give you two ideas. if his hair type is a mixture then corn rows may not work......

no harm in trying, no harm in letting him have his hair the way he wants....in a few years he'll be able to do what e wants with it (when he can get to some one who does hair or do it himself, and pay)

maybe go with dreds

Can African American people be Pentacostal?

Meaning long skirts, long hair etc.

Can African American people be Pentacostal?

Seriously? Not only can they, multitudes are Pentecostal. And Pentecostal doesn't necessarily mean "long skirts, long hair". Not all Pentecostals believe that way.

Can African American people be Pentacostal?

you've never seen one with long hair and a long skirt....you don't get out much do you

Can African American people be Pentacostal?

Uh i kinda though the most important guy in the pentacostle movement was an african american. I didnt think long skirts and all were the point.

Can African American people be Pentacostal?

Uhhh I think there is a law against it somewhere, isn't it? Wasn't there a case in court, of a bunch of African Americans being forced to pay heavy fines, and some getting prison sentences because they had joined the Pentecostal church?

Can African American people be Pentacostal?

No only Christians can be Penticostal regardless of race or nationality.

Can African American people be Pentacostal?

quite honestly there are many black people who do display modesty on all levels

ive seen it for myself

to say because someone is of another race couldnt be modest is actually low

i know of many races that protray modesty as if its sacred.

i think maybe u need to come to hawaii to get another opinion because its scarey to believe that prejudice people still do live today

www.lds.org

Can African American people be Pentacostal?

The reason the Apostle Paul mentioned about the hair thing (no mention of long dresses by the way) was that Christians should not take on even the remote appearance of temple prostitutes. The Male Prostitutes had long hair (and were bi-sexual).., the female temple prostitutes had shown hair and were bisexual.

In todays society - not that homosexuality is symbolized by hair, in the general spectrum of things, gay women have short hair, and well.., a Christian should not wear their hair in a "butch" fashion.., not so much short, but avoid the styles of the wicked. We are supposed to be set apart.

As far as women not being able to grow long hair, holding that against them is a sin in itself and a shame. The woman who cant grow long hair does not even need to ask for forgiveness for something that is biologically beyond her control.., and if we use even the attitude of "I forgive you sister because you cant grow long hair".., thats worse than those two traitor friends of Job.

People who hold that against a woman will not receive forgiveness (unless they repent) because they have judged wrongly in a matter that is non of their concern, condemning people like that makes them stumble and fall. I mean I knew a lady who attended such a church became a convert, she had short hair but fully intended to grow it long. BUT - the sisters in the Church kept telling her over and over "Your hair is a mockery to God...". The poor lady out of desperation purchased a wig and they ragged on her about that! She quit Church and these so called saints - felt really smug that they drove Satanette out of their presence. What these so called Christian ladies did..., THATS EVIL!! Cold Blooded Heartless Evil!!

Personally (no religious beliefs involved on this) I think a woman looks much more appealing with long hair. But if she cant grow it long - I certainly am not going to freak.

I am an african american teenage girl and I am looking for a product called Beauty 4 Ashes Godhead.?

Have you ever used this product? If so does it make your hair grow and does it give your hair bounce?Thank You.

I am an african american teenage girl and I am looking for a product called Beauty 4 Ashes Godhead.?

Okay girl, I havent used the product BUT I found you someone on here who does.

Her yahoo name is naturalremedies4u and this is what she had to say about the product you asked about

About three months ago, my hair stylist washed my hair with a Beauty 4 Ashes GodHead Silky Smooth All-Natural Shampoo. I immediately noticed a difference in my hair texture. My hair was softer, easier to comb, and more manageable. My curls were defined and, for lack of a better word, more separated. I couldn't believe it. I decided to try the shampoo and conditioner myself. I use them religiously. In one month, my hair grew 1 1/2 inches and because my hair is very coarse, having softer hair that grows was unheard for me. You can order it from www.discoverb4a.com. Go under the ethnic hair care section.

So from someone who has used it yes it does make your hair grow BUT for anything to make it grow it must already be healthy. Try infusium23 leave in too when I was about your age I got a bad perm and it ate my hair out a little, infusium helped it to grow back very fast. I still use it!

Good luck

I use to have shoulder length hair like yours and i get relaxers ever y 8 weeks. Remember not to wait to long to get a touch up because it can actually make your hair break more. Get your hair trimmed every 6-8 weeks. Try not to use a blow dryer, curlying iron, or flat iron to often. For instance, I wash my hair then blow dry it and flat iron it in the same day. I use as little products as needed but love paul mitchells skinny serum. The key to keeping your flat hair is to wrap it every night before going to bed with a silk or satin head scarf.

How can I get rid poofy hair?

Well I'm trying to stop using a hair straightener.

and btw i have african american "ethic" hair

I shampoo n conditon my hair and then I blow dry it, then its like a big poof mess!! ugh!!!

I ussually have to straighten it to make it smooth and stuff, but like i said I"ve given up my hair striaghtener. so...

Do u guys know anything I can buy, something affordable, that i can spray on my hair before i blow dry as to make it not a big poof mess when im doen blow drying.

Also I"ve tried that whole blow dry your hair straight thingy with the round brush, it doesnt work for me, i think its because my hair it too short or maybe its just my type of hair.

and btw i have african american "ethic" hair

How can I get rid poofy hair?

Do you relax your hair? That can cause a ton of damage, so consider working on limiting that damage (e.g. by going natural or working on the method in which you take care of hair).

Beyond the Zone's Smooth Shot is a serum found at Sally's which can help; it may be discontinued now, but I've found that John Freida's Frizz-Ease stuff is almost as good. Use a heat protectant like Thermasilk's spray to protect ends from damage, too. Also, consider ditching the blow-drier and using a small ceramic iron instead, because blow-dryers can result in lots of volume (triangle head).

I'm including links to sites that have great tips for those with kinks (these things may sound weird, but I've heard of people with "ethnic" hair having great success with them).

(to African-American women)would you prefer the?

straightening comb or a perm..

im wondering because i just got a perm yesterday and the person doing my hair said that i should go natural and use the straightening comb instead because i have a sensitive scalp and i burn easily.

(to African-American women)would you prefer the?

Honestly girl, I would prefer using a pirm because it lasts soooo much longer than a straightening comb, but if you have a sensitive scalp like you said, you should probably use a straightening comb. Or maybe even a relaxer because pirming can sometimes burn me too. :)

(to African-American women)would you prefer the?

Hey you shoud check out this site for black women I am member of this site longhaircareforum.com Women who have had lot questions about there hair. Report It

(to African-American women)would you prefer the?

hot comb!!! but it doesn't get your edges that good,so you should just use a touch-up perm.

(to African-American women)would you prefer the?

well then yo should her to use a sensitive relaxer for a sensitive scalp

(to African-American women)would you prefer the?

Get the perm!!!You just need it every 6 weeks!!And u can get it wet.

(to African-American women)would you prefer the?

Straightnening comb because I'm against perms in general.

(to African-American women)would you prefer the?

flat irons work better than any pressing comb ever could. They are less damaging to the hair and do the exact same if not better, because you can curl, wave, and straighten the hair.

you should go natural, you'll be happy you did, especially if you have a sensitive scalp.

(to African-American women)would you prefer the?

i prefer a straightening comb because i don't straighten my hair that much (i find straight hair to be boring). If you want your hair straight often i suggest keeping with the relaxer, just get a mild relaxer.

Hair products for naturally curly hair?

Does anyone here know what the best products for someone who is African-American and has naturally curly hair are? I need products that are inexpensive as I am in college right now.

Currently I use Infusium-23 Leave In Conditioner, Wave Nouveau Moisturizing Finishing Lotion, and Dr. Miracles 2-in-1 Shampoo.

I use the Wave Nouveau product because it's the only one that I've found that will work with my curly, thick hair, I know that it's supposed to be used for people who have texturizers but it's what my hair stylist told me to use.

What are the other products that are out there for African-American naturally hair?

Infusion extentsions for african-american woman?

I'm thinking about gettin' it done in January but alot of people are telling me that it brakes your hair off. But this is something I really want to get cause it's like your hair and i can get any style I want and I don't have to worry if any tracks are showing. Have anyone had this before or know that the infusion extensions

Infusion extentsions for african-american woman?

It can make your hair break, but then again theres a lot of factors as to how hair can break. If your hair is already permed then that can make your hair break faster with the extentions. It does look natural, but it definately can make your hair break easier.

Infusion extentsions for african-american woman?

You can get weave instead of extentsions because it will break your hair off little by little. When you buy the weave you can get the $1 weave or more. Make sure whoever isdoing it is good.

Has anyone met a mexican american that looks like an african american?

Has anyone experienced this themselves? A latino of Mexican descent with very dark skin and curly hair who some might say could be mistaken for an African or African American.

Has anyone met a mexican american that looks like an african american?

There are Puerto ricans that look Black too, that's why you aren't supposed to judge a person by their skin.

Has anyone met a mexican american that looks like an african american?

Yes.

Has anyone met a mexican american that looks like an african american?

Bingo!!!

Has anyone met a mexican american that looks like an african american?

United-Statesians are retarted people that have not realised untill today that "latino" is not a race. Probably what you saw was a black person that was born in Mexico. OOOHHH!!!

Has anyone met a mexican american that looks like an african american?

I haven't but they do look very similiar to some native american groups.

Has anyone met a mexican american that looks like an african american?

latino really isnt a nationality but the person may have been born african mexican or from hondurass or puerto rico ,, and worked his *** off in the sun for it too

Has anyone met a mexican american that looks like an african american?

Some puerto ricans are black. You all base race on geography instead of phenotype.

Ok, african american females, help ya sista out!!! Please!!!?

what is a good perm to use in my hair, give all details. thanks make sure you include your personal experiences.

Ok, african american females, help ya sista out!!! Please!!!?

Dont use any... or if you must use a childrens formula, and please use a moisturizer because they can be extremely damaging to our hair! We have the dryest hair out of every race, and therefore our hair needs the most TLC, yet ironically, we are the most abusive to our hair! I'm reading a really great book right now written by a women who has been studying black hair for 20 years and she has developed a system to get our hair into the best shape of our lives!! She dispells all the black hair care myths... GO to that website!! Promo: her name is Cathy Howse

Ok, african american females, help ya sista out!!! Please!!!?

The best brand that I've come across for getting a perm is Africa's Best. It works really well, even you if you have really coarse hair.

Ok, african american females, help ya sista out!!! Please!!!?

AALIYAH.COM be Aaliyah's ANGEL aneesa_renay refered you

Gurl use Motions. The yellow and purple bottle. Motions for sensitive Scalp. Works for me and my hair is like velcro if it's not permed. im never letting it get there again.Gurl that is the best!...or Dr. Miricle or Pcj kids perm. i used pcj asa kid and now im using Motions.

Ok, african american females, help ya sista out!!! Please!!!?

it all depends on the texture of your hair. i have what i call in between hair ( between nappy and happy). i can use kiddie perm and my hair will be straight. if i do use an "adult " perm i just pick one that is mild and for senitive scalps, otherwise i get sores in on my scalp. i find that i like both of the perms mentioned by Rachel H and Nessie. hope this helps.

Ok, african american females, help ya sista out!!! Please!!!?

I use Lusters Relaxer Kit. It keeps my hair straight longer than any home relaxer kits I ever use except for Revlon-Realistist Relaxer that was the best but I cant find it anymore.

Hair is smooth, shiny, well condition, silky.

African american haristyles?

Hi my hair is 1 inch long and i need a hairstyle i am african american. Can u tell me styles and some links so i can see how they look and what they are called.my hair is also nappy so help please.i appreciate it.thanks

African american haristyles?

how about twists? use wax and keep twisting it will hold if your hair is nappy.

African american haristyles?

You should try getting extensions and/orbraiding your hair.Try searching for hair stylist that specialize in your situation. I am also african-american and many of my friends have the same problem you do. My hair falls down to my shoulders though. My mom sometimes braids her hair and/or curls it. If you would like to find some pictures go to google.com and type in black hairstyles. You will find some suggestions on hairstyles. You should try many different hairstyles untill you find one you like.I hope I could help!If you have any more questions, e-mail me DBhoopstar@yahoo.com

I think you should flip it up

How do I clean my braids or keep them from stinking(experienced african american women only!)?

I have braids I oil my scalp I don't like to wash my hair because it causes your hair to unravel

How do I clean my braids or keep them from stinking(experienced african american women only!)?

It depends on what type of braids you have and the type of hair you got. If you have synthetic hair you can't wash your hair. If you have human hair you can gently wash you hair to keep if from unraveling. I have microbraids and I put mines in a pony tail and wash the pony tail, it doesn't get to the scalp but it does keep the hair clean that is exposed the most. Or you can put rubber bands where the braid stops and most likely wil unravel and wash it, wait for the hair to dry then take the rubber bands out...Hopefully that helps.

How do I clean my braids or keep them from stinking(experienced african american women only!)?

You have to wash them, gently, and I think there's even "braid wash" you can buy.

My nephew has dreads and he uses watered down baby shampoo.

How do I clean my braids or keep them from stinking(experienced african american women only!)?

If you are set on not washing your hair (which is not the best idea), you should try scented hair spray... like um Motions Oil Sheen or something. It keeps your hair shiny and it smells good.

My recommendation would be for you to tie the ends of you braids with rubber band and wash it. Don't scrub it because that will definitely make them come loose. Lather the shampoo before putting it on you hair and then let the shower water run it through your hair. :)

How do I clean my braids or keep them from stinking(experienced african american women only!)?

Wash your scalp properly and wash your braids as well. I don't like to wash my hair either but that's the only way you can keep it clean.

Have a nice day!

How do I clean my braids or keep them from stinking(experienced african american women only!)?

There's a latherless hair and scalp shampoo that you can use to clean your braids and scalp. It's called Herbal Cleanse by Organic Root Stimulator. I have locs and I used it during the locking process when I didn't want to wash my hair. Just put some on a cotton ball and rub in between the braids on your scalp. Then put some in a towel or a cotton square and rub it down the length of the braid if that's what you want to clean, but i usually just concentrated on the scalp which is usually the source of the dirt. Use a fresh towel to rub out excess. It works very well and has a pleasant scent.

How do I clean my braids or keep them from stinking(experienced african american women only!)?

well when i get braids i wash them and there perfectly fine.if that doesn't work put perfume on them.lol

Survey for african american/black girls?

I'm trying to do a study on the media's impact on sexual preferences, so please answer the questions honestly

What do you find more attractive...

african man with black hair and brown eyes or a white man with brown or blonde hair and blue eyes?

a nose resembling that of a man of african descent or of a man of european descent?

Tall short or average height?

Rank the following in importance of choosing a mate from most to least: physical attractiveness, attractive personality, earning potential

Black or white male genitalia?

a tall skinny, lanky man or an average height, slightly overweight man?

If two unclothed men stood side by side, one of them black and the other white, have similar body types, have facial structures similar to that of a typical black and white man, which do would you generally find more attractive?

Do you prefer men who are A) Signifcantly older than you B) A little older than you C) Very similar in age to you D) A little younger than you E) A lot younger than you

Survey for african american/black girls?

Wow ok well alot of questions i know it is a survey but uh for me as a black woman I have never tried to conform to what the media says is attractive. For me I have also not have a set strict of what I prefer. I find black men cute just as i find white men cute. It is all the personality of the person. Do not get me wrong looks are important, but when it comes down to laying in bed with that special person; with the lights off. Color or race or facial apperance is gone. At least that is how i feel. oh and i like men that are at least my age or slightly older ( 1 or 2 years at the most)

Survey for african american/black girls?

to many questions

Survey for african american/black girls?

i prefer Latin men or pacific island men and biracial men.i have also liked white men and black men. i like tall men. earning potential does not matter to me. personality is top on my list of importance. i prefer older men, they are just sexier to me.

Survey for african american/black girls?

soory wrong number.

Why do african american women want to be white?

they spend ridiculously amount of money to straighten their hair for example. they are the only race in the world with their kind of hair yet they are ashamed of it- they should be proud of it and make others wish they had their type of hair

Why do african american women want to be white?

No matter who u r or what u do, all of us at some point needs a change. Mostly we r influence by the look which we don't have no matter how rear it would be... Just like how the white people whould love to get "TANG SKIN".

Why do african american women want to be white?

Everyone wants what they don't have. That is the just one of mankind's many stupidities.

Why do african american women want to be white?

damn straight! they are hot!

Why do african american women want to be white?

Everyone wants what they don't have. They think everyone has it better than them. Blondes want to be brunnettes while brunnettes want to be blonde. Just like how dark-skinned people use all sorts of creams to whiten their skin while light-skinned people spend ages using fake tans and going to tanning salons.

Remember when you were a kid and you had a toy and everyone would be jealous of you, wanting it. But you wanted the toy that your best friend had because it seemed more fun than yours.

Why do african american women want to be white?

I'ts not that we want to be white

for me i always say ''I WAS BORN BLACK ,I AM BLACK AND I WILL ALWAYS BE BLACK TILL THE DAY I DIE ''

When we do our hair it's not that we want to be white ,but it's a way of using styles to make our hair look nice .

It's kind of fashion

if i may ask u To the whites who braid hair do they want to be black or they r just styling themselves.

I am proude to be black ,and straightening hair or using hair extensions does not mean that i want to be white ,I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF ANYONE BEING AHSAMED WITH THEIR KIND OH HAIR UNLESS THE PERSON IS A FOOL WHO DOES NOT WAN'T TO ACCEPT HIS COLOUR OR RACE.

PROUD TO BE BLACK :-)

Why do african american women want to be white?

What kind of question is this? Even straight haired white women curl their hairs, it has got nothing to do with ethnicity at all, its just whats hot today and whats not, Choice!

Why do african american women want to be white?

I disagree with Big Peter Johnson. More men I know like the darker complected dark hair gilrs. And as for the african american women wanting to be white, I don't think that's true. Just because they want their hair strait doesn't mean they want to be white. When we get perms (80's) we aren't trying to be african american, we just want our hair different. Maybe they think that straitening their hair would make them stand out, look different, etc. Everyone get sick of the same old same old, that's why fashion and hairstyles change yearly!!

Why do african american women want to be white?

Y do black women want to be white? They don't, Y do white

women want 2 B black? they don't, They might want 2 B

malado (pretty) but that's just speculation. I have straight hair butt(he he) i own a hair straightener, and a curling iron; a crimpper; hot rollers; barrettes; and...... well you get the point.

We are girls, we like to play dress up, its in our chromosomes, not our ethnic background! BTW unless an individual is 1st

generation American drop the previous country reference.

Why do african american women want to be white?

man, you are IGNORANT!

First of all what ridiculous amount of money are we spending?? $60 a couple times a year doesn't seem that much to ME. And why do you say WHITE??? SO white people are the only ones with straight hair?? Last time I checked, a lot of curly haired WHITE people STRAIGHTEN their hair- flat irons ring a bell??? Asians have straighter hair than white people- why didn't you say black people want to be ASIAN?? And do white people want to be hispanic so they get tans??!

Let me educate you since you are sooo stupid but think you are smart:

Black people were born with super curly hair. This hair is usually very soft(though it may appear otherwise) and breaks very easily. Braids were created so that black people didn't have to worry about combing their hair and then having it break.

Relaxers seemed to be the answer because not only was it a new look, but hair could be combed/styled easily.

I know **A LOT** of black girls who keep their natural curly hair, including some celebs like Tracee Elis Ross, Indie Arie, Jill Scott, and Ereka Badu(please excuse any misspellings)

You may also want to check out nappturality.com or motowngirl.com for everyday black ladies with long hair.

You f*cking dumazz

Why do african american women want to be white?

It's more of a matter of managing their thick hair easily. Straightening it makes it easier to comb and style. It's faster. And, the reason why some people of African descent intensely dislike themselves is because of CENTURIES OF OPPRESSION. Since before 1492, when Christopher Columbus sailed the ocean blue up until now, oppression has psychologically affected people. There are also many individuals that are proud of their natural hair texture, as well. In addition, people of African descent are multicultural. Our hair textures vary from super thick to bone straight, curly and wavy. Many Black Americans are mixed with Native American and European. People of African descent have mixed with other cultures, ethnicities and backgrounds for centuries. Others, such as Blacks from the Caribbean, are mixed with Asian. And Ethiopians and Somalians are African, and many have curly, wavy, straight and course hair textures. Our hair is versatile. We have so many styling options. Dominicans also spend ridiculous amounts of money on hair straightening products, and the Japanese are also known for their hair straightening process. African Americans aren't the only ones who straighten their hair. Indians have course, frizzy hair, as well! Take for example, the Siddis. Some Irish have massive amounts of frizzy, curly, course hair. Regardless of nationality, hair textures are diverse.

Why do african american women want to be white?

straightening doesnt indicate they want to be white, most white women own hair straighteners. But i agree with the rest of what you said.

Why do african american women want to be white?

As a professional Hair Relaxer specialist for over 25 years, I have straighten hair for women fo all colors and they don't want to be other than who they are racially. They have the OPTION to have straight hair. Newsflash... white women are not the only standard of beauty in America. So move on and get educated. I have worked with Black women during my career and they love being black and they love the fact that they can change their hair for fashion or desire.

Why do african american women want to be white?

I LOVE AFRICAN WOMEN'S HAIR, BUT IT NATURAL PPL SUMTIMES WANT TO BE DIFFERENT OR BEING LIKE SUMBODY

Why do african american women want to be white?

Because: White is perfection. Why do you think TV is filled with blonde bimbos. Because deep down men are gravitated to fair skinned blonde girls.

Sure, whites borrow some characteristics from other cultures but only what they want. That's why all eyes are on Gwen Stefani and not on the Japanase girls that follow her around. (to give you an example.)

That's life. Deal with it!

Problems with african american perming?

I have been using a perm for seven years but now my hair has been doing alot of breakage and damaged.should i stop using perms and go to press? my hair used to be sooo thick and long, but now its thin and fragle. also i think it could be that dying too.but now i using sulfur 8 and now i got my hair in singles. so hopefully it will grow back.

Problems with african american perming?

STOP USING PERMS AND STOP DYING YOUR HAIR. PRESSING YOUR HAIR IS GOOD IT LETS YOUR HAIR RELAX FROM CHEMICALS PRESSING MAD MY HAIR GROW REAL LONG IF YOU KEEP IT UP

Problems with african american perming?

first well if you perm your hair wait 6 weeks to 2 months before you get another perm. then wait 3 weeks to get it dyed. it would really help if you didnt get it dyed but a rinse instead that can cause major damage. If you want to press your hair it will still brake unless you use pantene removal time or other black products. well i use sulfur8 too that makes your hair very thick so you might need to use the hair lotion sulfur8. Well i wouldnt prefer singles because it puts strain on your hair also causing damage. Most likely you should keep hair washed, conditued, and wrapped(hair wrapped if you dont know) but do not comb hair brush it into a wrap. Then style everyday as you want but not braids.

I am african american and just bought?

sunsilk products for curly hair (green bottle). I was going to buy a spray.

I have a week off from work/school and I wanted to try using diffrent products for my natural hair ( unprocessed). I bought a curling mouse and that doesnt seem to work very well. Gel does nothing for me so I bought a creme.

what spray should I use? "Got 2 be" and had a fun looking one.....

I am african american and just bought?

Dont use the aussie products, they give some people rashes.

Pantene pro v have a special line of products for 'women of colour' they call it.

http://www.pantene.com/jsp/product/index...

I am african american and just bought?

aussie is awsome i love it and it smells good, tressemee mouse is good too, when you put it in your hair twist your hair in small locks kindof like dreads but not as tight and smooth them with the cream and when they dy they will not be as frizy and they will be soft like locks of curls!!

I am african american and just bought?

Sunsilk and aussie are really great! I'm half black so I can understand. I love these products!

EDIT: The mousse, OMGOSH that is the best stuff to ever be made! It is like AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

African American guys - what do you use to shave?

My husband is an African American living in NZ with me and we can't find some hair clippers or face shavers that can handle his hair. What brands/types of electric shavers work for you guys, and which website would I go to to find one.

African American guys - what do you use to shave?

Excessively curly hair is difficult to manage shaving is often irritating because the larger pores make the skin more tender. .

For shaving, electric shavers are not recommended for brown skinned males because the oil of the skin is heavier and does not allow a smooth traveling surface for the electric shaver.. Your best bet is a depilitory powder sold under various brand names, these products lift the hair from the root and results in an excellent shave; However there is a slight problem , the chemicals have a tendency to remain on the skin although washed off.by normal rinsing.

For details see our article, "A Smooooother Shave" for more advice;

We will place a shaving link at the bottom of our home page, just scroll down and click on, "shaving". This article will not appear until March 1, 2008, but yu can have a sneak preview.

This article, "A Smooooother shave" is for all races to improve skin and health of facial tissues.

For hair management use Wahl brand clippers.

AfrICan aMeRICaN pufF?

i always put my hair back into one puff, but i need a better way to put it up because my hair doesn't get tight enough, and it gets puffy

AfrICan aMeRICaN pufF?

my hair did that before..i know what you mean...it gives you mellon head after a while...after washing...use some gel...(let hair dry a bit first....put it on damp hair...work it in...then get a bristle brush...not the big tooth ones...the one that we think wont work on our hair....it makes a big difference...anyways....start brushing hair from the inside then all around the head...the hair will pull tight...use a cloth rubberband...and pull tight...aftre you have all your hair in a pony tail...use the brush and brush to the band...put a small amount of gel on the hair...and brush once more....good luck...i loe the way it works...but it would really be this nice if it wasn't for the brush....

AfrICan aMeRICaN pufF?

My hair is the exact same. The only thing I do to it, is pull it back in a ponytail. When my hair gets puffy, I use a headband, or some bobby pins for the sides. Also when I come out of the shower, when its wet, its more manageable, I brush it while it's damp, and use hairspray so it stays better. It usually works for me. Also if your hair is hard to hard to manage, like if its hard to brush, use leave-in-conditioner. I do, and it works good. Hope this helps..

AfrICan aMeRICaN pufF?

umm i do poofs all the time if it doent get tight try teaseing.backcombing it and the smooth in down and then use a bovvy pin to pin it

I'm a 32yo african-american male. How do I stop gray hairs from spreading & popping up all

It started about 3 or 4 years ago in my late 20s. It was basically confined only to my head and it was only a few gray hairs here and there. Which was no problem at first. Now, I have gray hairs sprouting up everyhwere and in the weirdest places at times. Over the last couple of months I've noticed gray hairs sprouting out on top of my wrist, my eyelashes, my eyebrows, down the back of my neck, my chest, the top part of my back just below my shoulders, and without getting too graphic, I've spotted a few below the belt in a weird spot. Back when it was confined to one area like my head, at first I was self conscious and didn't go out with friends alot. Then I go used to it. Now I'm very self-conscious again. Would like to know from anyone [all advice given will be greatly appreciated] if there's anything I can do to stop the spread of this gray hair. Thanks in advance.

I'm a 32yo african-american male. How do I stop gray hairs from spreading %26amp; popping up all over my body?

the only thing you can do is join the AARP and accept the fact you are getting older.....

they come back but theyre down for the day

I'm a 32yo african-american male. How do I stop gray hairs from spreading %26amp; popping up all over my body?

pluck them out

I'm a 32yo african-american male. How do I stop gray hairs from spreading %26amp; popping up all over my body?

You're 32 years, it started in your late 20s, so it just means you aging. You're male, so that just means you're hairy.

The only thing you can do is try waxing. You're gonna get gray hair, its part of the aging process. But if you don't want it "sprouting up" you can either shave, wax or pluck. Personally I think a smooth body is kinda sexy so on a guy so I'd say waxing. There is definitely no reason to stop going out or to feel ashamed, be thankful that you are alive and aging.

I'm a 32yo african-american male. How do I stop gray hairs from spreading %26amp; popping up all over my body?

invest in a time machine! Not much ya can do!

I'm a 32yo african-american male. How do I stop gray hairs from spreading %26amp; popping up all over my body?

Unless you have lots of time to find every grey hair on your body and dye it there isn't much that you can do. Grey hair is hereditary so you can thank your father. But worry not, lots of women find mature looking men very attractive. I,myself am 22 and have seen men that have greys and found them very attractive. Besides, you shouldn't focus so much on your looks,as it is a waste of time and only gets you down. As long as you practice good hygeine and keep up with your appearances you shouldnt worry. Focus more on your personality and what you have to offer.

I'm a 32yo african-american male. How do I stop gray hairs from spreading %26amp; popping up all over my body?

I started to notice what I thought were gray hairs in my late twenties. By the time I was 35 I was snow white and remain that way till today at 59. I don't think race has a thing to do with it, I'm white and have known a Hopi Indian who was the same way as I am. None of the guys "hair dyes" seem to do more then turn my hair green so I don't use them. I have grown a beard and own a very good Santa outfit. I charge a pretty good amount for playing him too.

I'm a 32yo african-american male. How do I stop gray hairs from spreading %26amp; popping up all over my body?

If you pluck them they can grow back double- the hair follicle can split. Short of shaving your head or dyeing your hair there is little you can do...

sweetie , unless you plan on becoming a hermit, accept that you are graying prematurely, don't be ashamed of them wear them proudly, not everyone is lucky enough to have that gorgeous silver hair!

Identify origin of a wooden carving of an African American tribal woman?

12 inches tall wood carving of african woman with tall parted in middle braded hair, clothed in a mid knee length skirt, she is probably one of the early american slaves that were kidnapped and brought to America

Identify origin of a wooden carving of an African American tribal woman?

the origin would be an african woodcarver who had been sold as a slave to an american. by the way, if she was brought to america, she would be an african, not an african-american, and most slaves were sold to white slave traders by Africans who captured them in battle.

Identify origin of a wooden carving of an African American tribal woman?

How do you know this woman is a slave? An American Slave?

Slaves are not the only ones who carve wood statues . I'd have to see a picture of the statue to know more.

African American Women Only Please?

Im 15 and I want to learn how to press my hair and ends(mostly ends) my mom taught me but she burns me so I dont trust her(not on purpose) so can anyone give me steps on how to press my hair

African American Women Only Please?

First start with hair that's just been shampooed and conditioned. Then dry your hair. Then comb out your hair and section it off. Starting with one section take 1./4 inch of hair and part it. Place your hot comb on the stove. Make sure you have a cloth to set the comb on to wipe it. Test your comb first, place it on the cloth to see how much smoke appears. Wave it around to cool it just a little bit. Then start at the roots take the comb and gently and slowly go downward, making sure the smooth side of the comb also runs along your hair. There you go do the entire head that way. Make sure the comb is never too hot or turns red while on the stove it's too hot for your hair. Good Luck and be carefully. Make sure you stand in front of a mirror to see what your doing.

The back is going to be the hardest for you but you will feel the heat if you get to close to your scalp.

I'm glad it came out fine. Thank you for the points. Report It

African American Women Only Please?

The 1st answerer got it all just right, but I would add to use a pressing creme, it makes your results silkier and longer lasting. DON'T TURN the heat all the way up on the burner or you CAN singe your hair right out of your head.

African american anime?

Okay, I've been seeing lots of things like 'Why isn't there many black anime girls' and things. and people answer saying not many black people love in japan. Well they do put lots of white people (blonde hair blue eyes etc) in anime. I mean, naruto doesn't seem like a japanese looking boy to me.

And anime always have straight hair. It's the same thing. Long and straight, pale, and stuff.

(not trying to go against white people)

But the light skinned is always the main character of like every show. Okay forget anime, the cartoon in the states. lots of dark skinned people live there. But the shows like sabrina the teenaged witch, brace face, etc etc etc are always the same. I mean sabrina and brace face look the same. They could be twins too.

Not only cartoons also with real people. I mean like every movie I watch...they could atleast make samara morgan be black, or something.

Not trying to be racist against anyone.

Or hurt anyone. Just sayin. If you hate me for it then oh well. :P

African american anime?

i was thinking the same thing the other day

and other than rappers most celebrities are white.

i think im gonna write black anime.

that would be awesome

African american anime?

there's actually a growing number of them. you just have to find them.

African american anime?

television and the wide screen does not cater to the black community. therefore there are not allot of black tv shows or people/cartoons on television or in the movies. they want this so called "american" figure (pale skin, blue eyes, long blonde hair) to dominate everything and it is.....even in Japan cartoons/mags. its not fair that these animators dont create more ethnic characters or just throw 1 black character in the picture, if at all. but thats life. i would say more but it would sound racist so ima stop here. (and no im not a racist)

African american anime?

There are a lot of shows in the states where the main person or one of the main charactoers are african american. Like Corey in the House, Cheeta girls, CSI: Las vegas, Scrubs, That's so Raven, etc.... I can keep going if you want.

African american anime?

Well actually most of the Asian people you see have straight hair. But also in one of the animes revolutionary girl utena one of the main characters is black but the bad thing is her brother is kind of disgusting in ways. Also there is the afro samurai and thats all ic an really think about. In alien versus predator the black woman is kind of the main character and surprisingly she actually survives. But if you think about it Madonna, Britney, and Marilyn Monroe were and are famous. A lot of people think that just having blond hair and blue eyes is just absolutely gorgeous and it kind becomes an icon and in some cases i guess you could say it's rare. I do wish that there were more black people in some animes since few times do you see them, it isn't wrong to want this though.

African American ladies plz answer?

I recently had to get my hair CUT because it broke off soo bad. I know its probably because I flat iron and use curlers alot because I dont relax it often. What r the best heat protecters to use and what is the best way to keep hair straight in between using heat.

African American ladies plz answer?

the best way it to make sure up wrap it up every night before you go to bed and also it wouldn't hurt if your just around the house and especially if your going to be doing something that may make you sweat! the proper way to wrap it is to brush your hair all the way around your head in a circular motion and tie a satin scarf around it. make sure all the hair stays tucked underneth. and STAY AWAY FROM THE FLAT IRONS AND CURLER!! LOL

African American ladies plz answer?

Well im not African American but .. i have extremley fluffy/curly outta control hair.

I use redken products with heat protectants , go into your local hairdressers and ask them there opinion.

It's hard to determine what you should use when i can't see and feel your hair.

African American ladies plz answer?

Matrix has several great products. The good thing is that they are light, and don't cause a lot of build up. Best Wishes !

African American ladies plz answer?

There is a "Thermasmooth" collection by Mizani and it works great for protecting your hair from the direct heat of blow dryers and flat irons. I use it on my clients and they love how smooth and weightless their hair feels. The whole system is made for straightening the hair...it comes with a shampoo, conditioner, smoothing serum, and an anti frizz spray. And it smells sooooo good! But i would suggest that you try and get a good press followed by a flat iron weekly...that way you really wont have to do too much touching up at home putting even MORE heat on your hair. And just at nigh wrap your hair with a silk scarf and also sleep on a satin pillow case just in case your too lasy to wrap your hair or your scarf comes off during the night.

African American ladies plz answer?

Well since my mom is a cosmetologist. I often do my hair in many different styles and when I need my hair repaired from all the damage I do to it she uses this grease after I get it relaxed called doo grow and ITS GREAT. I know your like BIH please.. But it works especially if you love to flat iron your hair b/c I do every 2 days and the grease is especially for the heat an its not to greasy.

African American ladies plz answer?

I would suggest that you use either Redken heat protector or CHI silk infusion.

Both of these are great protectants and add shine as well. If your hair is breaking and you need tips on better hair care, I"d like to suggest these two sites on the net which can give all kinds of great info. Just last year I was in your same boat, fried hair in bad condition. These sites REALLY helped me out.

African American/African and Hispanic guys?

Are white girls a yes or no? What body type, regardless of ethnicity? Eye color, hair color, skin tone? Dream woman (on the outside)?

African American/African and Hispanic guys?

That depends on the person regardless of ethnic background.

Personally myself, I am Puertorican and I do not prefer African females for the simple fact, their culture is conflict to my own.

African American/African and Hispanic guys?

What do you mean?

African American/African and Hispanic guys?

Im african american and i want front bangs....would they look good on me?

I have dark brown hair and i dont have a perm...but i really ant front bangs. Do you think they will go well with the type of hair i have? And by the way my hair is down to my shoulders

Thanks!

Im african american and i want front bangs....would they look good on me?

Bangs look great on most black women I have seen. In fact, most people look great with bangs. So, they'll probably look gorgeous on you.

rocker chick, front bangs are normal bangs that go across your forehead, sweetie. Not side bangs.

Im african american and i want front bangs....would they look good on me?

i dont know what you mean by front bangs but here is a cute style...

African American/Black ladies...how do you tell a man that you wear a weave?

Ok, so, I know all about hair, and I know that some of us african-americans don't have it. If my hair is not in braids (which most of the time it is), I get pieces put into my hair. I'm about to make the switch now, but there is this guy that I'm talking to now and I'm afraid that when I get my hair done, he's going to feel my head (all men do) and be turned off that he feels lumps. So the question is, how do you deal with this situation ladies?

African American/Black ladies...how do you tell a man that you wear a weave?

Well, I'm Dominican, my hair grows out long on it's own. However, even though my hair is half way down my back I Still wear weaves because it keeps my hair from being damaged when I want to wear it straight or something. It also gives me a lot of versatility as far as shorter hairstyles without cutting my own hair. My boyfriend is White from a small town, he didn't even know what a weave was when we first started dating. One day, I just told him, set him down showed him how a sew-in works and explained it to him. He could care less. He loves me with braids, weaves or natural. LOL, just tell him. If he genuinely likes you he won't care. Everyone wears weaves these days from Beyonce to Paris Hilton to Britany Spears to Jennifer Lopez, it's not a big deal.

African American/Black ladies...how do you tell a man that you wear a weave?

tell him what happening im pretty sure he won't mind.

African American/Black ladies...how do you tell a man that you wear a weave?

Just tell him that you wear a weave. If he's a black man he should already know the we don't have lots of hair. My hubby knows that i wear one and he don't give a damn. It's better than walking around ballheaded. Right?

African American/Black ladies...how do you tell a man that you wear a weave?

most men know the difference between weave and hair.. you dont have a situation he already knows your hair is fake

African American/Black ladies...how do you tell a man that you wear a weave?

jsut tell him

im sure hes been with other ladies that have worn weaves before

African American/Black ladies...how do you tell a man that you wear a weave?

i dunno dont most people already know that basically all girls wear extensions these days?...LOL its really not a big deal...its not like you have breast implants or anything...its just a weave...

African American/Black ladies...how do you tell a man that you wear a weave?

I know this is bad but, my BF saw some pics in my phone where I had long hair which was actually a weave. Now all of my weaves look natural. So now of course I dont have it anymore. So, my BF said what happended to ur hair. I said I was going through some changes at the time and I cut it off. And he was like niiice!

African American/Black ladies...how do you tell a man that you wear a weave?

If he is black, he should understand this. If he is not black, then you might have a bit of explaining to do. You will basically have to tell them the whole process, and they just want to understand black methods more, you know? Whatever you do, be honest, don't say its your real hair.

A Question For African American mothers....?

My newborn was born with straight black hair. Has anyone else son or daughter have the same type of hair, and if so how was the hair when they got a little older, did they hair get thicker or curlier? Just curious. My other daughter was born with curly hair and her hair now is thick. Thanks

A Question For African American mothers....?

Look at your hair and the dad's hair. That is the best indicator. AA hair can be straight to very curly but it usually starts out a lot thinner and less "kinky". It can take years to see the end result. Either way it will still be beautiful.

A Question For African American mothers....?

Her hair may remain straight, but in all likelihood will get curlier, and definately thicker. Look at the texture of her father's family's hair and go from there! And if you need help managing her hair when she gets older, please ask for help from her father's family, or other AfAms.

A Question For African American mothers....?

Are you or your partner of mixed racial heritage? If so, your baby's hair is unlikely to become curly. It will probably be wavy.

A Question For African American mothers....?

my daughter is 1/4 jamacian and was born with straight brown hair. its still light brown, goes blonde in the summer but it is really really curly and pretty thick.

A Question For African American mothers....?

many babies are born this way. I 'preserved' the texture by not washing it with soap for the first 3 months. I simply wiped it with warm water. The soap seemed to make it thick and dry. My kids that I did that to has hair that isn't dry, yet thick and curly

How do I manage and style my mixed hair?

I have wild mixed hair (African-American, Native Indian, and European) and im not sure how to manage it. I used to flat iorn it but it never grew because it is so thin and brittle yet thick in the amount that i have so now im leaving it natural in hopes of it growing. What shampoos/condition should i use and how often? also its hell to brush my hair so i barley do and if so only in the shower. Its just one big mess right now so how should i handle it? i also want to make defined curls that arent held together by hairspray cause thats what im doing right now and by the end of the day my hair is dryed out and frizzy. help.

How do I manage and style my mixed hair?

First off if you have African America in you then lesson carefully because I have the same type of hair.

1 wash you hair every 2 weeks

our hair grows only when it is dirty

2 do not Purim, bleach color your hair,

it will stop the growth of you hair

3 if you flatten you hair do it one a month sometime even less then that.

4. if you grease your hair it will be easier for you to comb ( use a comb not a brush).

5. pantie prove is good brown bottle.

6 STOP using hair spray not good for your hair and the earth come now you are not a white girl stop treating your like one.

7 Best way to get your hair done BRAIDS

8 last but not least the better you eat the better you hair grows crazy but true.

How do I manage and style my mixed hair?

get it pro done

How do I manage and style my mixed hair?

you could diee it red and make your hair into dread locks or can put them straight down maybe wat everone u would like...

How do I manage and style my mixed hair?

watch it every 2weeks

How do I manage and style my mixed hair?

I use cream of nature for my girl's hair, it works the best. But you should at least go to a professional (ethnic) a few times and get some ideas of how to take care of it. Watch them closely. Also, my friend told me to use carrot oil to put in my daughter's hair when I let her ware it down.

Good luck. I'm sure it is beutiful, just need to learn how to manage it

Has anyone of ethnic persuasion ever used the relaxer "phytospecific" on their hair? How d

I am curious to know if it works on African-American hair %26amp; does not damage it. It is expensive %26amp; I don't mind spending the moeny, but it has to work!

Has anyone of ethnic persuasion ever used the relaxer "phytospecific" on their hair? How did it perform?

Girl, it is not worth it. I have not noticed a change at all. It is suppose to be healthier and better for sensitive hair, but don't believe the hype.I plan to return to Designer Essential.

Has anyone of ethnic persuasion ever used the relaxer "phytospecific" on their hair? How did it perform?

I tried it for the first time a couple of months ago. I love it! My hair felt healthier than with a traditional relaxer. I had been using Mizani relaxers for the past few years and now I will not use anything but Phyto! I have fine hair that can be sensitive and I would recommend Phyto..... Report It

Has anyone of ethnic persuasion ever used the relaxer "phytospecific" on their hair? How did it perform?

I THINK OPRAH USES THAT RELAXER. HER HAIR LOOKS GREAT.

What is best recomended for african americans to use on their hair to make it grw and stay healthy.?

I need something that can make my hair grow out evenly and make it healthier than what it is now. I need somthing that is affordable and that is proven to work if anyone has anything that they kno of pleaselet me know.

What is best recomended for african americans to use on their hair to make it grw and stay healthy.?

here are some home remedies which are very good for dry hair. i had dry hair myself but when i tried these tips it was great! they've never been dry again!

Dont go out and buy anything expensive.

First: Purchase a mild Shampoo (To Clarify hair, I will explain why)

Second: TRIM your hair ends (May 1 1/2 to 2 inches)

Third: Here's the magic part: Mix olive oil, almond oil, coconut oil, avocado oil and a "little" honey, (honey u will have to heat so it can blend). Either leave on ALL day or all night (if all nite, DONT use honey)

Beat up on an Egg: Separate the white of an egg from the yolk, and whip the white thoroughly. Then add 1 tablespoon of water to the yolk and blend until the mixture is creamy. Next, mix the white and yolk together. Wet your hair with warm water, remove the excess moisture, and apply the egg mixture to your scalp with your fingertips. Massage gently until the froth is worked into your scalp, and then rinse the hair with cool water. Keep applying the mixture until it is used up. Continue to rinse until all of the egg is washed away

Go for the Mayo: Heat up one half cup of mayonnaise until it becomes an oily, white goo and apply to dry, unwashed hair. Cover your hair with a plastic bag and leave on for at least 15 minutes. Then, rinse and shampoo thoroughly.

Mix up a Tropical Treat: Mash one over-ripe banana (the blacker, the better) with a mushy, rotten avocado. Massage this exotic puree into your hair and leave on for at least 15 minutes before washing out鈥n the kitchen sink!).

Grab a Cold One. Beer can give your dry hair a healthy sheen. Before you blow-dry or style, use a pump bottle to spray brew onto your hair. The beer will leave your hair shiny and sleek and its odor will disappear quickly.

In addition to using these home remedies regularly to avoid dry hair, try the following preventative measures:

Avoid overshampooing. Shampooing can wash away the hair's protective oils, so try washing less often and use a mild shampoo labeled "for dry or damaged hair."

Condition regularly. Conditioners protect the hair鈥檚 cuticle layer from splitting from the shaft. Pick a conditioner that works well for your hair and use it after every shampoo.

Wear a hat. Too much exposure to wind and sun can leave hair thirsty.

Trim off split ends. The biggest problem caused by dry hair is split ends. Schedule a trim every six to eight weeks to keep fraying ends under control.

Ease up on the heat. Heat (in the form of blow dryers, as well as straightening and curling irons) can quickly dry out hair. Let your hair air dry occasionally. Try using plastic cylinder rollers to straighten hair by wrapping slightly moist hair under and around rollers for about 10 minutes. For curling, try using sponge rollers overnight or sleeping with moist braids.

Don't swim without a cap. Use a rubber cap to protect your hair from the damaging effects of chlorine. If you must forgo a cap, rub a spoonful of olive oil into your hair before diving in.

also heres a very good website which could help you out with all hair problems!

http://www.pioneerthinking.com/hair.html

Good luck!!:)

Another thing is also putting in lotion in your hair after you have gotten out of the shower and you can also put in lotion in hair after you have dried it.

Just rub some lotion on your finger tips and run it through your hair evenly.

Also, something that will help your hair is to take COLDshowers. What most people dont know is that if you take hot showers, the heat gets rid of the oils and other things that your hair needs to be kept healty and shiney.

Hope this helps!

If this doesnt help just contact me and i can give you more tips for your dry hair!

Smash an avocado and mix with jojoba and peppermint oils. Make sure its really smooth you may want to put it in a food processor with a little water. Then apply some to your scalp and the rest on your hair. Massage for a minute or so then put on a plastic cap. Leave for 15 to 30 minutes. The avocado and jojoba oils will moisterize and the peppermint will stimulate your scalp to loosen any dead skin and open your pores. It will feel great. Your hair will grow better and won't be dry. :)
