They cannot use just any product for hair care due to its delicate nature, that is why they make special hair care products for African Americans. the growth pattern of african american hair out of the shaft is ussually curly (some more tightly curled than others), so imagine combing through ringlets of curls. it will give the impression of coarseness when compared to caucasions whose hair is ussually straight out of the shaft. there are exceptions to the rule, for example caucasion women with "frizzy" or natually curly hair, and african americans with "straight" hair. its all about wether the pattern is curly or straight in the cuticle.

as a side note, its interesting to see that both races try so hard to achieve what the other has, caucasions getting perms to make curly hair and african americans getting perms to achieve straight hair.

No idea.. their hair isnt so much coarser as it is curlier. but alot of answerers here said very dumb things. If african hair is more tolerable to heat, then why do they so easily get split ends, even with hair that is only 2-3 inches long? most caucasian hair can get to like 6 inches long without getting split ends, (with daily straightening). Asian girls do NOT have thin hair, moreso caucasians do. their hair is really thick, but straight. Lastly, perms for caucasians went out about 30-40 years ago. Vitually no caucasians get perms, unless they're like 50 years old. You people should get your facts straight.
