we are african american and my daughter has thick beautiful natural hair. she's only five and i am adament that she does not get a relaxer until she's old enough to make that decision herself (18 yrs old). one style that i've tried on her recently is giving her a lot of twist (about 40 or so), undo the twist after it is dry, and let her wear a scarf, headband or just let it flow free. my question is what product would you recommend i use before i twist the hair to help bring out that natural curl? also, our hair absorbs oil sheen so fast, any other product recommended for sheen?
What product can i use on my daughters hair to maintain the curl?
I use Curls Rock from Catwalk. I find it gives me shine and plyable curl not crunchy. I would apply while wet and finger curl her hair with the twists like you are and allow it to dry I have caucasion hair though and though I need the moisture your daughter may need more but give it a shot. It smells great too. Also there is a shine spray called Headrush from Bed Head. Also a Catwalk product found only in prof. salons or stores. Spray on while hair is dry. Smells great as well.
I think it is a good idea to not start her with the harsh chemicals untill she is old enough to realize what it can do to her hair. I see too many african american girls with bad hair because they get relaxers and I think once you start it is hard to stop.

Try either Lusters Pink Oil Moisturizing Lotion or African Pride Hair Dressing, or Isoplus Oil Sheen in the Blue Can. I use all of those products and they really work well to add moisture and sheen.
