How come black people in America don't really look African?

I notice about my ethnic group becuase We really don't look african at all but yeah we maybe have the hair but us African-American/black people come in many shades of brown. But in this world we got to go by that.

Im from the UK and of African decent and people here think Africans look like the many African here who come from west Africa (Ghana Nigeria etc). Its true African Americans look different because of mixed racing over several centuries not only with Europeans but different African ethnic groups were mixed to make a different look. In Africa the major groupes are:

Niger-West to central Africa who your probly talking about and many call the African look. Majority of Afro caribbean are of Niger descent. Known for creating vodou %26amp; high creative musical culture where reagee to hip hop can find its roots also bantu originate from the niger.They have thick features hair bone lips bum etc a structure to run fast because of the flat terrain where they live African Americans dominating in sports got the ability from this.

Bantu-Central Eastern and southern Africa where majority of African American ancestors originated. They have more diversity in looks than the Nigers but usually look alike and are usually lighter almost all afro brazilians are bantu decent.

Saharan-North and eastern Africa. Usually slim very dark almost the colour black and sometimes tall small eyes.

Khoisan- Southern Africa Light skinned small eyes usually slim and small the oldest ethic group alive today small in number everyones ancestors looked like them.

Arab-North to north Eastern Africa i.e Egypt

Somali- Somalia Ethiopia North Eastern Africa. Wavy hair similar skull as Europeans similar European looks except skin colour can be light skinned to dark.

Malagasy- Mainly look a mixture of bantu and asian some look like a pure asian and black different shades small eyes

So do you still believe 900,000,000 people of Africa are all one colour shade or whatever you mean to look African does Nelson Mandela look like Robert Mugabe even though their countries border eachother. Your answer would be African Americans have your own look because of some racial mixing yeah but remember you look more African and are more African than any other continent even if this breaks your attempts to distance yourselves from Africa.

Africans have been in the US for a very long time, and along the way lots of racial mixing happened... so there are lots of shades of African Americans, and a lot of times they aren't nearly as "black" as Africans. Very pretty skin.

Because during the slave trade we stripped Africa of its smartest, strongest, healthy, wealthy, most attractive Africans on the continent. This created a huge negative effect on Africa in almost every sense. Black people in America have the benefit of an elite gene pool.

I live in England and most Black people here now are of an African background and sometimes I can't tell them apart from my own Afro-Caribbean people who look a lot like African-Americans. The thing Afro-Caribbeans and African-Americans have in common with eachother is our slavery past. This involved mixing with White people (the slave masters) and in the Caribbean it also involved mixing with Indians and Chinese people (the indentured labourers). So this could explain why we look slightly different from those who are directly African. We are more "diluted" I suppose.

I believe this is because African Americans are mixed with white and Native American.

Mixing with white produces various shades of people with either (first) mixed *****/caucasian facial features, (2nd) ***** features or (3rd) sometimes caucasian features.

Adding in the Native genes to this mix gives people their narrow eyes, semi-caucasian features and sometimes straight hair.

100 % West African black = blue black skin

3/4 black = dark brown - Ving Rhames

1/2 black = light brown - Thandie Netwon, Halle Berry

1/4 black = light yellow - Mariah Carey

1/8 black = dusty white / maybe slight ***** feature

1/6 black = white - physically white certainly

1/32 black = physically white
